I wish I had Tina Fey here to do a weekend update with me. I’m sure you wished Tina Fey were here with me to give a weekend update.
With a long work week, I planned to leave work an hour early on Friday since I had put in extra hours earlier in the week. About 30 minutes before I had planned to leave, I realized that I hadn’t seen one (of the few that was there that day) dietitian since early morning. I paged her and found out she still had a list of patients to see on the floor she was on as well as another section of the hospital. She asked if I wanted to take some from her. I wasn’t chomping at the bit to work more, but there was no way I was going to have her be at work till 7pm (no dietitian left behind!). See, the show must go on.
I wanted a treat after work and I got it.
I made sure to say decaf. I was needing sleep-big time.
Boy came by later that night with rosemary (my favorite!) wood fire oven pizza. We split it and each had four (I went back for the 4th) slices.
I slept a wonderful 9 hours. Unfortunately I had more than enough dreams about cholesterol that night! This dietitian clearly needs a vacation.
I woke up and shared breakfast with my childhood lifelong friend.
I always had my dad pour a bowl of cereal for Bear on weekend mornings when I was a kid. Now I make it myself, but I ensure he’s eating oats-he’s not getting any younger and should be thinking about his heart. We both enjoyed a bowl of oatmeal (oats, skim milk, chia seeds, banana, vanilla extract, & cinnamon) with maple syrup, almond butter , and cherries. He gave it two paws up.
The weather wasn’t humid, which is a miracle in the Midwest during the summer, so I suggested that wherever we go out to eat needs to have a patio to sit outside. We went to a local restaurant with a great beer menu. I order Chimay White on tap.
When the drink was being delivered to the table, the waitress was still five feet away and announced, “It’s a baby glass!!” It was petite for sure but lasted the entire meal. I ordered the mussels on special with a side of grilled asparagus.
The broth included wit beer, red onions, red bell pepper, tomato, carrots, lemon, and cilantro. The mussels were amazing, but I ended on a bad note. The last mussel to eat was unopened. I wanted it anyways but boy was firm in telling me not to eat it. I listened.
As soon as the bill was paid I dashed out of there. Smokers are allowed to smoke outside and I have a zero smoke tolerance. Kill yourself, but not me. Thanks.
The boy was meeting up with a few friends at a bar which I stuck around for a little bit. This small, off-the-map bar had crazy amounts of craft beers for great prices. The bartender advised me that they do have “girlier” beers for me. Um, no thanks. We shared a Delirium Tremens which I haven’t had in 2-3 years.
It was better than I had remembered. This was an instance that I wished beer didn’t have alcohol so I could drink it for the taste alone.
Sunday morning I woke up with no milk in my apartment. No form of oats to make or iced coffee to make. Perfect reason to go to Starbucks!
I ordered the “perfect” oatmeal. I made sure to grab a banana and even my own granola from home to perfect their oatmeal a little better.
Time to get out in the sunshine today before I go back to work for the week. I need to find a hammock so I can soak up some sun and relax at the same time.

Sounds like an awesome weekend! And now I’m craving iced coffee:)
Yay what an awesome weekend you had! Those mussels look fantastic, definitely something I would have ordered as well!
Never had the ‘Bux oatmeal…is it sugary?
LOVE pizza! Lucky you have someone to split it with…I eat it all
I actually can eat the whole pizza over the course of the night. It might be a mere 8″ pizza, but it’s nice to share! The sbux oatmeal is sugary only if you add more than 1/2 tsp of brown sugar-in my opinion.
Way to help out your co worker! That is really nice of you
