This girl needed her Saturday. I rarely will declare the true need for it. I really needed a “mental health day,” you know?
Friday started out well. I remembered to wear red, did you?
I thought to myself, “If I forget to wear red, I will not be able to show my face at cardiac rehab.”
I arrived at work and promptly greeted all my dietitians with a “Good morning!” And then I followed with more exciting news for them, “I brought treats!” I had grabbed 7 vegan bars (ok, nearly vegan bars due to milk fat in the chocolate!) from the freezer and shoved them into my purse before leaving that morning. We’ve all been a bit down lately so I figured these could perk us up a little bit for a Friday.
It at least fed one dietitian who hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. I texted the dietitian who was off since they were working the weekend that she had a treat waiting in the break room freezer for her. She was nice enough to text me at 6 am this morning to thank me-ha!
It was fun to see all the red over at cardiac rehab! I had an open 9 am slot so I took the time to do a February bulletin board. Of all months, a cardiac rehab bulletin board needed to be updated for American heart month. I saw my two scheduled patients (who were a pleasure to meet!) before wrapping up my morning.
My afternoon involved seeing a diabetes patient one-on-one and a weight loss appointment. My diabetes patient was too much fun! Another dietitian had seen her during her two prior visits, so I felt lucky to get to be her dietitian this time. My weight loss appointment reminded me of patience for patients! The majority of people who come to see a dietitian aren’t thrilled. Some patients only come because their doctor told them to come. Most patients are quiet when they first arrive and just need a little time to warm up to start asking questions and providing answers. Patience and people skills are critical for outpatient dietitians.
The rest of the afternoon was spent charting, entering productivity, filling out Monday’s outpatient diabetes schedule, and other paperwork-like work. I texted the boyfriend to pick out a few beers for me before he left the wine shop to do a wine tasting across town. He texted back telling me that he picked out a few gems. Once I finally made it across time during rush hour, I asked for the beer that Aaron had left for me. I got a sort of blank look. I had asked the worker who didn’t know about it. He grabbed the first bad and pulled out two Belgian beers. I said that those had to be it. I paid and went home to start on one. The boyfriend called later to check that I picked them up. He asked if I paid for them and said that of course I did. Well, so did he. What a nice profit on those two bottles!
I opened up Trappist Rochefort 8 first (and only).
Belgians are always a good choice! Unfortunately for me, they’re higher in alcohol. A brief Trappist nap followed after reaching the bottom glass sediment.
The boyfriend and I started our Saturday with a trip into a Chicago suburb. I called my mom during the drive and she asked what we were up to. I told her, “We’re on a beer run.” She realized the time of 9 am and further questioned me. I explained that we were picking up a particular beer that Aaron is on a waiting list for.
We of course ended up with more than just the one beer. I myself took home a few cute Belgians (noticed my Belgian obsession yet?).
We found a Four Calling Birds in a locked case and instantly knew that we needed it. The boyfriend only has 4 bottles of it in storage-ha!
We had enough time to hit up Trader Joe’s which was a block over. It was there that I finally brought up the Super Bowl. Did we have plans? We figured out our plans with 2 sentences so took the opportunity to pick up TJ snacks for it. I ended up with a shopping cart full of food despite no grocery list. I’ll have to plan meals around what I bought.
I put away all cold items when I got home and immediately worked out. After my quick work out I grabbed a hummus wrap that I’d just bought.
I was not feeling it. I’ve discovered that I prefer hummus sans tahini. I know, I know. That’s the basics of hummus but those are my feelings on that.
I scrounged up some leftovers for a make-shift lunch.
