Morning!
Saturday = long run! Double digits began today but my worries began yesterday. This morning I was able to accept the double digits. I woke up at 5:30 am. I wanted to sleep in! I was dreading pushing food per usual. I did so anyways.
Two slices honey whole wheat with cookie butter and 1 graham cracker. I could do no more. Right before I started my run I had a realization. I forgot my darn deodorant again. I shrugged it off. I’m going to be sweating, I’m outside, and I’m not with anyone.
For nearly 4/5 of my 10 mile run, I dealt with a side stitch. I did the breathing method that one of my college friends taught me. It would work but then the side stitch would return shortly. Even more annoying-I paused my run at just over 6 miles because I approached a hill that most bicyclist walk up due to its steepness. It was a perfect time to try my gel that I picked up last week.
Thoughts: raspberry unpleasantness. I also wanted to throw up for the next 2 miles. But it did give me energy. Not sure about repeating a gel.
Right before ripping into my gel though my workout “completed” itself. I must have bumped something by mistake.
All the tiny creatures in the lush greenery that surrounded me heard my, “Nooooooooo!” I reset another run for 4 miles and forged on.
My Gatorade was out by the last mile. I drank a ton to get down the gel. I calmed myself at the end of my 10th mile and walked home for hydration! Water and chocolate milk for the win!
I wasn’t thrilled about my pace but was happy I made the 10 miles.
After stretching, foam rolling, and showering (those feel so good after long, hot runs!) I ate breakfast.
My usual oat/spinach/fruit smoothie with cookie butter and sunflower butter. I ate this while watching The Tour time trial. I remember how depressed I was after last year’s time trial. I moaned, “Oh Andy…” that day. Ha!
Dietitian Business
Backing up to yesterday now…. When working in a hospital, near a weekend anything goes! I had 3 outpatients and cardiac rehab on my schedule. By early afternoon it became clear that one of the dietitians had a little more work in order to get out of work on time (she had plans for the evening). You see, we are sent so many education consults on Fridays. Patients are going home and they need to be seen. Now.
I told the dietitian to give me the education consult sheets. She asked if I had time to do them. I told her that I’d make time.
I work with people who do the same for me. I needed to leave early last week for a visitation/funeral and I was out of work on time. When I was about to go into work one Friday in March but my mom called me to tell me that my grandmother was dying, those dietitians worked 10 hours to cover my work.
Make sure that you work with people like that.
I also work with people who bring in newspaper articles for me.
This is Aaron’s newspaper feature! The article discusses what he does as a Cicerone. What the article doesn’t cover is all the hard work and time that he put into creating job opportunities for such a job.
Weekend!
I started my weekend by coming home, putting on my sweats, and reading a book. I wanted to relax in anticipation for the double-digit morning that was coming.
Aaron came over after work (delayed leaving work due to a shattered wine bottle-haha) with beer!
I tried a few sips of this one. It was like a dry Belgian. I liked it! I asked Aaron what makes a beer “dry.” I almost started laughing a few minutes into his explanation! He was quite literally explaining it in scientific terms. I wanted to laugh because I was so impressed and expect nothing less from him.
Dinner was delicious! Friday night pizza per usual.
Pear, red onion, goat cheese, and reduced balsamic vinegar with a side of kale chips. This is such a solid pizza combination!
The rest of the night was spent searching for new running songs while watching Dateline’s coverage on the theater shooting. I held it together watching it last night but when I was watching it today after my run, I lost it. I was having flashback to NIU’s shooting. I had to turn off the coverage in attempt to stop my own memories.
Plans for today: Sugarjones cupcakes!, Banana Republic outlet, Trader Joe’s, and …seeing the Batman movie with Aaron.
Note: Chris Froome and Bradly Wiggins are awesome. That’s all.

Side cramps are the bane of my existence. I hate the ones that linger after a run.
Smoothie in a Cookie Butter jar!!? Amazing.
I haven’t had any linger after a run. That sounds horrible!
