Morning! It was a much better morning for myself. The dilemma of having to shower twice today if I didn’t run was the main motivator to get me out of bed. More on that later.
Yesterday was nuts. What is going on here? I had a busy day but not as busy as the cardiac rehab ladies. I found out what happens if a patient has a cardiac arrest, syncope, etc while exercising. I’ve only been around when the patient doesn’t feel well and are then checked out by nurses in my office/exam room. I was out talking with a patient who was exercising when suddenly it was announced for everyone to stop exercising. It took about 5 seconds (which seemed like 5 minutes) to figure out what the problem was. The other problem was that patients were confused and still exercising. I explained that we needed to pause our exercising and get to the hall where we’ll be out of the way.
That’s right. I corralled and got out of the way. You don’t want a dietitian around in an emergency 9 times out of 10. I waited with the patients while EMTs and an ambulance arrived. And then exercise resumed.
My biggest benefit of cardiac rehab was coughing the entire 4 hours that I was there. You know what happens when you’re sick and you work with experienced nurses? Pure gold information! The RN who is in the process of becoming an APN told me to get an expectorant. A what? Luckily it caught my eye after work.
I love my nurses!
Yesterday’s work was also nuts at lunch.
Right..like walnuts. Sorry. This lunch was so good though!! Baked sweet potato with butter (olive oil wasn’t fitting into my lunch bag), walnuts, and feta! So delicious and filling. Baked sweet potatoes with whatever is in the kitchen is my new favorite go-to lunch.
After work I went on my run. The Midwest is lucky with this cooler weather. It was upper 60′s when I ran at 5 pm.
I pushed and pushed for a good pace. I need to leave my training on a good note.
It was nice not feeling rushed to get ready for work once I returned from the run. I just needed to get going on dinner!
The romaine lettuce that I bought on Saturday has an expiration date of today, so I needed to use that up since it was already a little sad-looking. Aaron grabbed arugula from his garden to mix in. Fresh greens are unbelievable. Next year there needs to be an entire greens garden!
Roasted black beans, onion, red bell pepper, avocado, crispy tortillas, and lime vinaigrette. One plate of this and I was stuffed.
And then after dinner….we didn’t watch the Olympics. Sad.
Within 12 hours I was back at it for a 2 mile run. I refused to shower this morning and then shower again after my run. I would just like to be clean for the day. Whatever gets me out of bed at 5 am.
I kept myself busy before going on my run to have this much light.
My inner thighs where still a little tired from yesterday. And my lungs were happy since no one was out smoking on the bike path like they do in the afternoons. Really.
By the way, I feel safe at dawn because of the rowers.
I can always count on them being out early.
Onward with my Tuesday. I have an 8 am patient and I’m sitting here with wet hair at 7:15!
