Morning!
Breakfast came before noon today. And it was awesome.
I made a double batch of ELR whole wheat chocolate chip sweet potato pancakes.
What to do with this pancake mountain? I am all about food extras for future quick meals/snacks. It’s also all about the boy who has a beer festival in a few weeks and has minimal time to put thought towards food. For real, that beer festival just might be better than Christmas.
My Saturday was busy yet I feel like I didn’t get too much done. I blame driving time for that.
I headed into Algonquin (outer Chicago suburb) for a Trader Joe’s stock up! First thing up was the Binny’s a few blocks down.
I kept eyeing this Alagash Curieux! Aaron was busy brewing beer at a local brewery (beer fest work!), so I didn’t have my most reliable beer source to tell me if it was a good buy. I just went for it. The beer is described as a Belgian style tripel aged in Jim Beam bourbon barrels.
And how can I pass up Metropolitan’s Krankshaft in the summer? What a classic!
Here’s what happens you date a Cicerone.
You keep an empty bottle case box in your trunk for safe beer travels. I’ll admit that it does come in handy from time to time.
Next up was Trader Joe’s. I think I primarily go here for cookie butter and fish.
I like the portioned fish fillets that can wait in the freezer. Fresh fish is a ticking clock and more expensive.
And the rest.
That seems like a lot of cookie butter, no? One is for a fellow dietitian and cookie butter is easier on my stomach than nut butters for pre-run fuel.
Snack for the ride home.
I like the real protein that comes from this bar.
After putting away all these groceries I went back out to the grocery store for primarily produce.
A few other things that I couldn’t find at Trader Joe’s plus a few things to stock up Aaron’s kitchen.
These groceries must be stretched far after what I spent!
With an overstocked kitchen, I began using up food for dinner-taco pie. I accidentally made a double batch of the “sauce.” I was annoyed with myself for 3 seconds and then realized that this could be divided up to make a quick dinner in weeks to come.
The taco pie was topped with plain, fat-free Greek yogurt and Crystal’s! Why haven’t I had this or Frank’s around for over a year?? Sautéed snap peas with garlic and soy sauce for the side.
The rest of the night was spent with The Hunger Games movie and a Krankshaft.
